Enjoy a memorable day on board ‘The Statesman’ as we travel around the Cumbrian Coast, probably the most stunningly beautiful scenic coastal line in England through an area steeped in maritime history with spectacular views of the Lake District Mountains and the wide panoramic expanse of Morecambe Bay as we journey to Ravenglass, where there is the opportunity to ride the legendary Ravenglass & Eskdale railway into the Fells.

Leaving the main line at Carnforth we depart past the ‘Brief Encounter’ Refreshment Room made famous in the classic 1945 movie, after picking up speed we pass Silverdale and cross the first of the two spectacular viaducts over the River Kent at Arnside with stunning views across Morecambe Bay. Continuing through the Victorian resort of Grange-over-Sands and Ulverston we continue across the Furness peninsula where the views of the Irish Sea and Lakeland Mountains are truly spectacular before arriving at the pretty coastal hamlet of Ravenglass around 12.20 for a break of up to four hours.

We have an optional excursion at a discounted price, which should be pre-booked at the same time as the main tour as availability is strictly limited:
Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway:

The delightful narrow gauge railway runs offers a 14 mile return journey through spectacular Lake District scenery to Eskdale, situated at the foot of England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike with most trains hauled by one of the little steam engines dating back to 1894. At the lines terminus there is an excellent cafe and the opportunity to enjoy the tranquil beauty of the Fells with riverside walks.
